What is the World Wide Web?
The World Wide Web, also known as the web or www, is the data that is sent along the Internet's hardware. Remember that the internet is hardware (physical pieces of equipment that you can touch) that allows data to be sent to other computers. The World Wide Web in essence, is the data that is being sent.

Of course it is more complicated than this but on a basic level this explains their relationship. The data that is sent over the Internet is a series of connected hypertext documents. We will learn more about these documents next quarter, but for now just know that the data that is sent along the Internet's hardware are small HTML files that we in everyday English call websites or webpages. |
