Windows Explorer
You've probably used Windows Explorer without ever realizing it! Every time you open the Computer or the Pictures folders you are using Windows Explorer.
So what is it? Windows explorer is the computer's file and folder manager. It is a graphical user interface (GUI) for accessing files and folders on your computer. This means that you interact with the computer using pictures and symbols. Rather than typing lines of code into the computer to make it load or create folders you can just click on a picture of the folder. Forward and Back Buttons
You can use the Forward and Back buttons to move forward and backward through your searches.
Address Bar
The Address Bar provides drop-down menus for the current navigation path. A navigation path is the sequence of folders on a drive that you must open to get to the file for which you are looking. The folders are ordered from the highest to lowest point in the hierarchy. You can use the Address bar to move up or down the navigation path. You can also use the Address bar to find recently visited Web sites and prior searches.
Search Box
In the Instant Search box, you can search for folders and files on your computer by typing the folder or file name. You can also use the Search box to find all documents that contain a particular word or phrase or have a specific property.
Menu Bar
With the Menu Bar, you can perform a variety of tasks that relate to managing and organizing the files on your computer. Because the Command bar and the Menu bar perform many of the same functions, by default the Menu bar does not display. To display the Menu bar, press the Alt key.
Command Bar
With the Command Bar, you can perform a variety of tasks related to managing and organizing the files on your computer. The options that are available in the command bar will change as you select different files or folders in the navigation pane.
Navigation Pane
You can use the Navigation Pane (the left pane) to find files and folders in the computer. It literally allows you to navigate the contents of your computer. You can also move or copy items directly to a destination in the navigation pane.
Contents Pane
The Contents Pane (the center pane) displays the contents of the selected folder. Selecting a file in the contains pane will display a preview of the file in the preview pane as well as more detailed information such as the date created in the details pane. Double clicking on the file will cause the file to be opened by its default program.
Preview Pane
The Preview Pane (the right pane) displays a preview of a document or image without opening the document or image.
Details Pane
You can use the Details Pane (the bottom pane) to view, add, and/or change a document’s properties. Properties are characteristics that are either automatically assigned to a file or assigned to a file by you. Properties include such things as the date the file was last modified, the author, tags, ratings, and the document category.
